LONIIS has powerful scientific and technical potential
In permanent LONIIS stuff work about 500 diplomaed specialists (including 4 Doctors of sciences and 34 PhD). 
Specialists of LONIIS system subdivisions are actively involved in development of legal regulations ordered by the Ministry of information technologies and communications of Russian Federation, take part in NGN testing at the «Svyazinvest» networks..
The flagman development of institute is packet switching system called SAPPHIRE, realized using NGN technologies. In spite of the fact that SAPPHIRE system is under development, we have already begun trial deliveries of this equipment to the real networks. LONIIS test center has accreditation on carrying out of certified tests almost on all kinds of telecommunication equipment.
The State Technopark for telecommunication equipment is the base of O&M support for operators. The State Technopark is equipped with modeling stations (Alcatel 1000 S12, Linea UT, NEAX 61 ∑, 5ESS, C*C08, SI2000, Quantum, ÀÒÑÖ-90, EWSD, SAPPHIRE), which allows to build network with «flexiable» configuration, and also — with test–measuring equipment.
Remarkable feature of LONIIS scientific school is integrated approach to research works. The institute was engaged in all fundamental problems of local communication development. Our specialists are distinguished with aspiration to carry out investigations on the most actual scientific directions. This is highly assisted with our close coooperation with operators and manufactures.
The institute is known not only in Russia, but also abroad. One of confirmations for such statement — carrying out of regular international conferences in LONIIS. LONIIS specialists take part in activity of the European institute of telecommunication standardization and the International union of telecommunication. LONIIS is the regular participant of international exhibitions of communication systems in Russia and abroad.
